PENANCE

Penance is a three-part psychological thriller for Channel 5, written and created by Kate O’Riordan (Mr Selfridge), based on Kate’s book of the same title. Episodes 1 and 3 are written by Kate, and Episode 2 is written by Ben Morris (Bancroft).

The lives of Rosalie Douglas and her teenage daughter, Maddie, are changed forever when they meet Jed, a beautiful, charismatic young man at bereavement counselling. Rosalie has lost her son. She’s in a fog of grief and denial, her marriage to Luke under intense strain. Jed moves into their lives and ultimately their home. Lover and confidante to a besotted Maddie, gentle surrogate son to a grateful Rosalie. A spark of hope for the future is rekindled within the household. But underneath, a deadly and morally corrupt triangle is taking shape…
